Big Ten +1 to become Big Ten +2?

In a presser yesterday, Paterno stated that he'd like to see the Big Ten expand by one team, to a total of twelve.

His reasoning:

"We go into hiding for six weeks," Paterno said, referring to the hiatus between the end of the Big Ten regular season and the BCS bowls. The other major FBS conferences play into the first weekend of December.

"Everybody else is playing playoffs on television," Paterno said. "You never see a Big Ten team mentioned. So I think that's a handicap.

I think that he's right. The Big Ten does suffer a bit from the extra layoff (they're done before T-Giving), compared to other BCS conference schools, in some bowl games. Now that's not an excuse to all poor play, but it does play into it somewhat. It also has some detriment with voters in the final polls as they do have a tendency to forget about Big Ten schools since they haven't seen them play for nearly 3 weeks.

A Big Ten conference with two divisions and a Championship Game would be a good thing.

The question is: Who gets added?

Rutgers?

Notre Dame?

Anyone?

Bueller?
