Morning Dump 5/15

- Well the Eastern Conference Finals are set for the Pens. Starting Monday night (huh?) they play the Hurricanes. Schedule here. What a shitty schedule though, that's spread out like a damn NBA series. Boo on you NHL and Versus.

- Ron Cook has a good look at this team and how they may be better than the '08 team. I think that the jury's still out. Talent-wise, I don't think this team is as good. Not having Hossa and Malone is a major difference, but experience and 'gut-wise' they may be better.

- Malkin, "No, it's just the job is only half done, it is only the second round," he said. "Yes, it is a great victory for us tonight, but the most important games are ahead of us. Of course we are happy that we won this game. But also all of the fatigue is accumulated after such a difficult and long series. So, it's time for some rest now."

Well said, well said.

- The Pirates played small ball last night, stranding 325 runners on base, in a loss to the Cards. They won the series, which from where they were last week is great, but the sweep was there for the taking.

As I detailed yesterday, an important stretch of games is upon them against beatable teams. 5 of the next 7 is a must to get back to .500.

- Gotta really like what Ohlendorf is doing this year so far.

- Hopefully the Pirates land this 16 year old kid from the DR. They're in a bidding war, but they've got some in's. This alone makes me salivate, "Based on what I've seen and heard from talent evaluators, his upside is that he's Albert Pujols in Hanley Ramirez's body"
